Overlook from bryce Point

Today we explored Bryce Canyon, named after a Mormon settler who 150 years ago tried to live in this area and gave up after 5 years because it was too harsh. He had a famous saying “It’s a hell of a place to lose a cow”. The sights are spectacular as you can imagine. If you can’t take a look at the picture gallery. The problem for us is that there are no trails that we can hike with the kids. They all lead down from the rim to the canyon, so it’s too dangerous to do with our threesome. Similar to the situation we had in Grand Canyon last month. Zion was ideal because everything was happening at the canyon bottom. Here it is at the top.

Nonetheless we did the 18 mile scenic route and stopped at all the viewpoints (almost). Some of the more famous scenic points are protected by fences and in those area we let the girls run around freely. Ron was in a bad mood today, maybe feeling a bit sick. He hijacked a seat on the double stroller and did not want to walk at all, anywhere. No enticements or bribes would help. We hope he’ll get over this soon. We need those 2 seats for Shir and Orr.

Back at the campground in the evening it was warm enough for eating outside. We lit Shabbat candles (they blew out from the wind within seconds) and drank some grape juice for Kiddush. Today we also did laundry after only 6 days since last time. 3 loads!!!

We are going to stay here another night. Tomorrow I will do an early morning hike and then we’ll cover some more scenic lookouts. I am now planning the next few days of the trip through southern Utah.

Good night,

-Hemi
