After a long yesterday, we woke up around 8am today after a relatively good night sleep. The girls did not require our assistance at night, which is good, because our bed is above the front seat and getting down at night when you are a zombie is a bit dangerous.
I ventured out to a windy and slightly chilly morning to check the hookups and dump the waste water (black water = came from the RV toilet, gray water = came from the kitchen and shower sink). I went to the campsite showers which were pretty good, so when I got back Paola and I took the kids there, and we all had a nice shower. After eating cornflakes for breakfast, we set out for Death Valley.
4 hours and several stops later, we arrived at Death Valley and stopped for a first fantastic view from Zabriskie Point. The mountains are colored in red, yellow, brown and white, and the wrinkles in the land provided great photo opportunities.
We continued to the visitor center to get details of trails suitable for our family, and checked in to our RV campsite to make sure we would not lose our space. We drove 15 minutes to a place called “Golden Canyon†and walked in several 100 meters before having to turn back. You see, we used our amazing new double stroller, the BOB REOLUTION DUALLIE, which is like the jeep of strollers. It has 3 inflatable tires that are 16 inches in diameter, shock absorbers, and other features that make it suitable for rough terrain. Except that you can’t climb rocks with it. Still, it was a nice excursion. At the endpoint for us, Ron found a nice little Rock and started to climb. Getting down was more complicated for him, but he managed to do it. After snacking on apple sauce, Orr and Shir notified us that they would like to walk back to the RV. And so it was. Good to get them used to hiking.
We proceeded to a scenic drive called “Artists Drive†which has many beautiful vistas of multicolored rocks and mountains. The highlight is a point called “Artist’s Palette†which truly looks like a palette with light green, red, brown, and white.
Before returning to our campsite, we stopped in a parking lot on the way to watch the sub set and prepare supper. We had tasty omelets and then the girls had some milk. Shir lately does not finish her milk.
We are now at the campground, it is after 9pm and the kids are not willing to sleep. They are all in their bed for the past hour, driving Paola crazy, then me crazy, and now Paola again. We hope that as the days pass, they will get more accustomed to their new “home†and fall asleep easier and earlier.
Good night
