Kolob Canyon Overlook

Finally the weather is with us! We woke up to a nice and sunny morning today. Shir had a bit of a fever last night but it wore off during the day. The kids were overjoyed to spill out of the RV right after breakfast and run around the gravel around the motorhome. Not that they don’t like their current home. In fact, both Shir and Orr can now say RV! We crossed the border into Utah and drove for 2 hours in what seemed to be very similar to the past 2 days in Nevada, only without the snow.

We reached Cedar City, a town of 20,000 just north of Zion around noontime (actually 1pm, we are now in Mountain Time Zone). We parked near a Walmart and some other stores and went to buy Ron new shoes. He has been “complaining” in the past few days that his sneakers are hurting his toes. The boy is growing…

After some shopping we proceeded to the north western corner of Zion Park called Kolob Canyon for a beautiful 5 mile scenic drive. Shir and Orr fell asleep when we got to the parking lot at the end of the drive. I took Ron for a quick 1 mile hike to an overlook and the views along the path were amazing. Lush green trees spotting Redstone mountains mesas and buttes. There were even specks of snow here and there. Ron hiked like a true champion, I was walking at a rapid pace and he kept up almost the entire way. The amazing thing is that he kept talking the entire time. He told me about his friends at school, king Pharoh and the story of Passover, King Scotty of Scottie’s Castle in Death Valley, and other historic items filed in the drawers of his young and developing mind. It was great fun to walk together.

When we got back, Shir and Orr woke up and got their fill of fresh air with a great view as well. We then drove for one last hour and arrived at the current campground just half a mile from the south entrance to Zion. After exploring the playground, we had a quick supper and got ready for bed. I did the laundry, and can’t believe how much dirty clothes have produced in just 6 days. No wonder our washing machine seemed to work 24/7 back home.

The forecast says the next few days here will be gorgeous and warm. We plan to stay put for a while, we’ve done too much driving in too short a time.

Good night,

Hemi
