2007 05 08 – Big Trip – Day 8 – Zion National Park

Zion RV Park, Springdale, Utah. Tachometer – 1140 miles

Today was a resting day. We didn’t budge from the campground till the afternoon. In the morning we played around in the playground and then in the RV. It was a hot day and at noon temperature was around 30 centigrade. We also sensed that the kids were tired of sleeping in the stroller or in the car seats so we put them in their bed for noontime nap. Not easy to get all three to fall asleep together. After an hour of work they fell asleep for 2 quiet hours.

In the afternoon we headed back to Zion Canyon and this time we hiked to Lower Emerald Pools. It is a paved hike 1.2miles round trip. Shir and Orr wanted to walk but as the path became a bit dangerous (it had a ledge) I held their hands. They did not like this idea. They prefer to walk solo. So back to the stroller they went. The pool itself is quite unimpressive, maybe because this year was relatively dry. The dripping water from the cliffs above was nice though. Ron and I practiced catching drops with our tongues.

On the way back to the shuttle station, we spent some time on the lawn of the Zion Lodge, a rustic hotel in the park. We even wanted to have dinner there, but they were all booked. Some wild turkeys started trotting into the lawn. Orr was unsuccessful in trying to grab one.

Back at the campground I prepared some barbequed chicken but by the time it was ready the girls were sleeping. The evening was very warm and we ate outside.

All in all a very mellow relaxing day.

Good night.
