Ron leading Shir and Orr

Shabbat Shalom.

Today we toured the ranch and saw part of the herd of bison. Turns out that Bison is the correct term for buffalo, but now it’s too late to change names like “Buffalo Bill” to “Bison Bill”. One of the ranch people took us in a school bus colored red white and blue and drove us right into a group of 20 bison. These are probably sedated or otherwise very cool animals as they did not act aggressive at all. They came up to the bus to get fed hay pellets from the driver and eventually from Ron Shir and Orr. It was interesting to see a buffalo head, larger than one of my kids so close to one of them. In addition to the bison we saw a few “beefalo”, these are a cross between cow and buffalo. The ranch also imported one yak from the Himalyas. The two beefalos and yak tend to hang out together as the bison herd treats them as outsiders. Bigots.

After the tour we had lunch and then headed into Cheyenne, the biggest city in Wyoming with 50,000 people. Once a year it has 10 days of glory at the end of July, when the “Daddy of ‘em All” rodeo takes place. This is Cheyenne Frontier Days, a hugely popular western event held annually since the late 1800’s. They have all sorts of cowboy competitions, Indian dances, and lots of country and western music. Other than that it looks to us like a sleepy little town. Next to the rodeo stadium is a quaint western museum which has memorabilia from the past events as well as a large collection of horse drawn wagons from all eras of US westward expansion. The museum also has a kids room where Ron dressed up as a cowboy and everyone rode a bronco. For dinner we ate in a recommended tavern just out of town, but it was not a huge success. Today was also a windy day, a major fun reducer for us. Let’s hope it isn’t like this every day going forward.

Interesting observation – We spotted over 10 firework stores/warehouses in town and around. Question: Why would such a small town need so many firework stores?

Good Night,

-Hemi
