The children had a great day. It started with the campsite playground, continued with a petting farm, and ended in this campgrounds playground. Ron also met a friend that was parked right next to us.
Our campground in the last 2 nights near Badlands was the easternmost part of our trip. After an easy morning of pancakes and playground we drove back towards Rapid City, this time using scenic highway 44. We stocked up on groceries at Safeway and had lunch and then took the kids to Old McDonald’s petting farm. It’s a nice attraction for city kids. Ron Shir and Orr fed little pellets to the calves, sheep, goats and fish. They saw a pig race. They took a fun little train ride. The best part was the pony ride. Ron took a ride and Shir was so adamant about it that we let her go too. A minute was enough for her. Orr soon joined for a brief photo opportunity as well.
We drove up the road from the farm to this campground, which has 250 tightly spaced sights. Luckily for us, our next door neighbors were a nice ranching couple from eastern Montana with a 4 year old girl that Ron played with all afternoon and evening. They also brought along a cute little puppy that Shir and Orr went crazy over. We ended up having supper together with the Gundersens and learning about a different way of life than we are familiar with. It ain’t easy living off the land.
Good night,
-Hemi
