Picnic at Storm Point Trailhead, Yellowstone National Park

Shabbat Shalom.

Today we woke up ay 9am again. Actually Ron woke up at 6 claiming sleepily that there is a horse in his bed and that he is scared. It was Shir. Luckily he returned to sleep and so did we.

Our morning hike was a 2.1 mile trail to Storm Point where we hoped to see some moose. There was one bison at the beginning of the trail. But no moose. Both Shir and Orr fell asleep on the stroller as we progressed. The hike was through a meadow, then pine forest, then walking along Yellowstone Lake shoreline and back through the forest.

We had lunch at the trailhead, overlooking a small pond.

We drove to the canyon area of the park and checked into our new campground for tonight. From there we went to the visitor center and Ron participated in a junior ranger talk. A ranger presents a topic to kids age 5-12 in a fun way. Today they talked about mammals and their sense of smell. The ranger let the kids smell various Ziploc bags and try to figure out what the smell is from.

We then drove to the south rim for another hike to Clear Lake. It was a nice stroll through a meadow and forest and reached a nice clear blue lake with a stink of sulfur. On the way there and back we a saw a young male elk lazing in the grass not too far from the trail.

At the campground I prepared a BBQ dinner but there were so many mosquitoes out that Paola and the kids stayed in the RV. The kids had a huge appetite and Paola could not cut the chicken or steak fast enough for the three of them.

No hookup here so we all took short military style showers. Tomorrow I plan to wake up early and go on a hike to the canyon.

Good night,

-Hemi
