Oregon Dunes

The children had a fun day. We had a relative short drive down the coast and reached the Jesse Honeyman State Park which is part of a larger Oregon Sand Dunes State Recreation Area. The dunes stretch for 15 miles along the coast and 2-3 miles inland. The campground is in the state park and I have to say that for a government run establishment it is one of the top campgrounds we have visited. Full hookups, an awesome playground (Ron says), and best of all, the dunes right out the gate.

We spent 4 hours on one particular dune that overlooks a little lake in the park. People come here to sunbath, sandboard (like snowboard), swim in the lake, or just run up and down the fine golden sand. Ron Orr and Shir had a blast. They kicked off their shoes and smothered themselves from every angle in the sand. Paola and I sat next to them and enjoyed the sunny skies, while the cool breeze kept the temperature just right.

After the dune we continued to the playground, where the children exerted the last of their energies for the day. Needless to say, it was very easy for them to fall asleep tonight.

If you are wondering why the blogs are a bit shorter in the past few days, here are 2 reasons:

  1. we are doing less
  2. we are preparing for the next leg of our journey later this month, and this includes a lot of research, phone calls and emails, most of which we can only do in the evening after the kids go to bed.

Tomorrow we head inland toward Crater Lake.

Good Night,

-Hemi
