Anthony Chabot Regional Park Campground, Oakland, California. Odometer – 10089 miles!
It’s hard to believe that 3 and a half months have passed by so fast. Tonight is our last night in the RV and we are very close to our starting point, in a quiet secluded nature sanctuary just 5 miles from central Oakland.
Our day began in the sweltering heat of Sacramento where we began started cleaning up and organizing our stuff in the morning. I also took the children for a walk to the river running by the campground, and we saw pelicans and some fish.
At noon we started west on highway 80, what a crappy road for something that connects New York to San Francisco. Full of bumps and ugly patches. We stopped in Vacaville’s premium outlets, where Paola was on a mission to complete Shir and Orr’s summer wardrobe. She got great deals at Carter’s, a baby/toddler clothing chain. It was lunchtime and we ate at a terrible buffet in the outlet center.
Our tummies half full and with a bad taste in our mouth we headed to Oakland. As we neared the East Bay, the temperature dropped to a more comfortable level, and when we crossed by Berkeley we could see the cloud covered Golden Gate Bridge and SanFrancisco.
We stopped at Oakland Airport where Paola picked up a rental car, and she drove behind me to this campground where we arrived at 5pm and began to pack up. The amount of stuff we have in this RV is unbelievable. Even after 5 hours of work, and half a dumpster full of trash, we still have tons of stuff in here. Paola is worried we won’t fit it all into the rental car.
Benny joined us in the evening, and Ron was very happy to see him. Shir and Orr were very shy at first, as if they forgot their funny uncle. But with his magic touch, Benny had them laughing and cooing around him in no time. In fact they did not want to get in the shower, just play more and more with him.
Tomorrow morning we return the RV and head back to Foster City, where we will spend the next few days until our South Pacific adventure begins next week.
Good Night,
-Hemi
