Goblins in Goblin Valley

Hi. After several days of relative wilderness (no Internet or cell phone coverage) we have changed to the opposite extreme and are staying in a city; at least the biggest town for around 200 miles – Moab (after the biblical Moav?). We have a few minor problems with our RV (leaky kitchen sink, shower hose problem, and worse of all, the toilet fluch mechanism is not working). I have an appointment at an RV garage tomorrow morning to fix everything.

To celebrate our arrival in civilization, we are staying in a motel, and we also went to a nearby restaurant for dinner. There is a thunderstorm outside so perhaps we chose a good night to be sleeping under a concrete roof.

Our day began in the serene and beautiful quiet of Fruita campground. We got organized rather quickly because we knew we would have along day of driving ahead, and we also wanted to stop by a small park we saw on the map that seemed promising. After and hour and a half of driving we arrived at Goblin Valley State Park. This place has a pretty valley full of smooth small red rock formations that kids can climb on, through, under and in between.

Ron Shir and Orr were overjoyed to be running and climbing in this natural playground. I can’t believe the entrance fee was only $6, much cheaper that Disney, and twice the fun. I think that for the kids this has been the highlight of the trip so far. Since it was very hot outside, we spent only 45 minutes with the goblins before returning to the RV for lunch.

After cooling down a bit, we continued the drive for another 2 hours to Moab.

We hit Interstate 70 for a short while before returning to the more local 191 and into town. We checked into the motel and thought of going to the swimming pool, but it was way too hot outside, although it was already 4pm. The kids were ecstatic walking into the motel room and immediately proceeded to jump on the beds. With the AC on max, staying and playing in the room seemed like a great way to spend an hour before dinner.

Tomorrow, after fixing the RV issues, we head out to Arches National Park.

    Wow wow and wow!
    You cannot realize the emotional shake I’m expiriencing reading your blog.
    You write so nice and clear, and my memories add the filling and the smells and it is an adventure of its own.
    I hope you got well treated by the RV repare crew, and keep the motel reciepts for the final check. The idea of writing the tachometer is great, maybe you should also write and accumulate yourhiking distances.
    Though I know and anyone can tell that you are having fun, enjoy and squeeze every second because this magical moments will flood you whenever you’ll read your blog or watch the pictures (btw take much more of the kids, RV, picknicks and all these “everyday routines” (connecting the hookups for ex).
    We shall keep staying posted – you keep having fun!
