The RV needed fixing this morning, so I spent 2 hours at the local garage while Paola and the kids stayed in the motel room. Most of the issues were resolved except for two, so tomorrow I have to be back there again after some parts will be special delivered. Bummer. The repair guys are real nice, but that does not help us enjoy the trip. I just hope that tomorrow will be the last time we see a mechanic on this trip.

After the garage, I got back to the motel and we checked out. I had to take care of some phone calls and then we had lunch in a local diner. It was actually pretty tasty.

Within 2 minutes of getting back into the RV and driving, all three of the kids fell sleep. We drove 2 blocks to the RV campground which is right in the middle of town and checked in. Then we continued to Arches National Park, about 5 miles drive. We got there and I went to the visitor’s center to learn about hikes that are stroller friendly. After getting back, and with all three kids still sleeping we drove up to one of the first attractions and decide to rest as well until the kids got up.

That’s when the plan started to fall apart. Shir woke up hysterical and would not stop crying. Ron was not on his best behavior either. And Orr, she was actually in a good mood. After 30 minutes of Shir’s weeping, we couldn’t take it anymore. Both Paola and I were tired, hot and irritable. We scratched Arches and returned to the campground. I took the kids to the playground so Paola could rest and then she played with them while I rested. We never claimed our trip was a vacation, because with 3 little ones, it’s always a lot of work. In general we discovered that when the kids are in a good mood so are we. If one of them is crying for too long, we are headed downhill…

We got our energy back after the campground rest and decided to try our luck with the park again. Arches, take 2, was a much happier story. Although all three fell asleep again when we drove up, we managed to do the entire park’s scenic drive (15 miles) and to park in front of a kid friendly .3 mile hike to Sand Dune Arch. After waking up (5:30pm), all five of us walked from the RV through a nice path that led into a hidden canyon filled with warm reddish sand. There is an arch hidden there that is not very spectacular but still we took a nice family photo under its shade.

This “artificial sandbox” was a great success with the kids and they rolled around and played until they were drenched in sand from head to toe, inside and out. Next time we should bring their sandbox toys.

When we stepped back out of the canyon the weather turned sinister. I guess every day in the late afternoon it gets Thunderous out here. The wind started blowing and heavy dark CB clouds filled the sky up quickly. Since it was almost 8 (suppertime) we decided to find a nice spot with a panorama and prepare supper for the kids in the park. The bet paid off. While Paola prepared the food, I shot some great sunset shots. As the kids were eating it started to rain hard and then a rainbow came out. Perfect light for a photography enthusiast! I almost forgot to eat.

We got back to the campground after 9pm and so the kids went to sleep really late. We hope that they’ll sleep well tonight.

Sweet Dreams
