We woke up to a drizzly misty morning in Tofino and were glad to get out of there as soon as we could. We drove over 300km to get to Victoria where we will spend our last few days in Canada.

On the way we made just one stop, at Cathedral Grove, which has 800 year old Douglas Firs, Cedars, and Hemlock trees. We stretched our legs on a 10 minute walk and got back to driving. The kids behaved impeccably.

We got to the Victoria area around 4:30pm and checked into this campground. Unfortunately we could not get a site closer to town, and this is about 30 minutes away. There is some motor show this weekend, and everything booked up ages ago.

We gave the kids 15 minutes to play in the playground before packing them back into the RV. The reason – Buchart Gardens may close the gates if we don’t get there by 5:30pm.

Buchart Gardens is a famous tourist attraction. It is a world renowned botanical garden over 100 years old. It started when Mrs. Buchart decided that her husbands emptied out limestone quarry is ugly and needs to be beautified. She became a serious collector of flowers from around the world and people came from all over to see the gardens.

Happily we got to the gardens in time and could enjoy the blooming colors. Now you know me, I wouldn’t dash like mad just for flowers. But today was Saturday, and on summer Saturday nights, the garden also has a fireworks show. Since Ron missed fireworks on Canada Day, it was only proper that he get his fix tonight.

So we strolled the gardens and towards dusk headed to the viewing area and spread out a blanket on the grass. It was after 9pm and the kids ran around tiring themselves out. Finally the show began at 9:45pm and it was quite spectacular. With the first loud bangs Orr began to cry, but after less than 30 seconds she began to enjoy the show. Within 15 minutes, she was asleep, despite the loud noises. Ron and Shir stayed awake the whole time and we think they enjoyed it.

Getting out of the park and then the parking lot took almost an hour, and the drive back to the campground also took its time. It’s now past 1am, and I need to sleep.
