Saphat Falls, Wells-Gray Provincial Park, British Columbia

Wells-Gray Provisional Park is huge, but since it is not a national park it gets less attention from tourists. We found ourselves driving through an almost deserted park today. Most of the park is wilderness but there is one access road for 50km that takes lazy tourists to 4 different waterfalls all within 5 minutes walk of their respective parking lots.

And so we drove first to the farthest and most impressive Helmcken Falls, named for the first medical doctor in British Columbia.

We then did Dawson falls, considered the mini-Niagra, and finally Saphat falls. In between we played around a bit, had lunch and snacks and basically took the day in slow motion. It was hot.

We checked into this campground in the afternoon and took the kids straight to the playground. The excitement running through Orr and Shir when they see a new playground is like an electric shock. Shir, with her cast, climbs, runs, slides and swings.

After dinner, we went back to the playground for another hour long session. Ron and Orr perfected their backward headfirst slide technique.

And Ron finally figured out the secret of pertuae-mobili (perpetual motion) on the slide. No more pushing him on the slide. The boy has learned to use his feet to kick and add inertia to his swing. Bravo Ron!

Tomorrow a long 250km drive to Whistler. But before that, with a good internet connection here, emails, news, and the blog.

Good Night,

-Hemi
