Most people get to Whistler on the see to sky highway from Vancouver. We got here from inland, driving 250 miles today, mostly on side roads that were rather empty. From Clearwater we drove on highway 24, then took 97 and finally 99. There were plenty of forests, rivers and lakes along the way.

We stopped for lunch at Downing Provincial Park, a tiny little picnic area that was in our way when we got hungry. Aside from this one hour break, we drove pretty much straight most of the way. The children should be commended for their patience on days like these. Paola should also be commended; she drove for about an hour in a very steep unpaved part of the way.

Whistler is a famous ski resort, and will host the skiing competitions in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. We got here late in the afternoon and the campsite was full so we are just using their parking lot. This is known as “Overflow” camping, and for the pleasure we paid $35. At least the kids got to play in the playground…

The weather has deteriorated substantially during the day, and it is cloudy, cold and drizzly outside. Unfortunately the forecast for the next few days is not much better.

Good night,

-Hemi
