Paola and Shir walking down the trail from Scotts Bluff

We had a warmer morning today and after a quick visit to Safeway set off rather early eastward on route 80 towards our next destination. We crossed over into Nebraska, part of the Great Plains. I expected to see a flat, endless grassland, but in reality there are some hills here and there. We drove north towards Scotts Bluff, an atypical rock formation towering 800 feet (250 meter) over the surrounding area. We arrived at noon and had lunch in the parking lot.

After lunch, one of the rangers took us up the bluff with a shuttle van, a service happily provided to RVers whose cars cannot pass through the 3 tunnels built in the 30’s. Ron was ecstatic – a shuttle AND tunnels. (more…)

Ron leading Shir and Orr

Shabbat Shalom.

Today we toured the ranch and saw part of the herd of bison. Turns out that Bison is the correct term for buffalo, but now it’s too late to change names like “Buffalo Bill” to “Bison Bill”. One of the ranch people took us in a school bus colored red white and blue and drove us right into a group of 20 bison. These are probably sedated or otherwise very cool animals as they did not act aggressive at all. They came up to the bus to get fed hay pellets from the driver and eventually from Ron Shir and Orr. It was interesting to see a buffalo head, larger than one of my kids so close to one of them. (more…)
