West Thumb Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park

Today we finally made it to Yellowstone. The getting organized took us a while. We had to fill up gas, propane and groceries. From there it was another hour just to get to our campground because of construction work on the roads.

Ron leading Shir and Orr

Today we toured the ranch and saw part of the herd of bison. Turns out that Bison is the correct term for buffalo, but now it’s too late to change names like “Buffalo Bill” to “Bison Bill”. One of the ranch people took us in a school bus colored red white and blue and drove us right into a group of 20 bison. These are probably sedated or otherwise very cool animals as they did not act aggressive at all. They came up to the bus to get fed hay pellets from the driver and eventually from Ron Shir and Orr. I-25 North crossing from Colorado to Wyoming

It rained all night but by morning the skies cleared up. We lazed through the morning routine and then took care of some errands. A quick 1 hour drive north up route 25 and we crossed into Wyoming. A mile and a half later we arrived at our campground for tonight, Terry’s Bison Ranch. This is a ranch that has a herd of 300 buffalo as well as various other animals. They have cabins and an RV site, a restaurant, a train ride or a bus ride to see the herd and various other activities for families. (more…)
